(Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: Umno veteran Annuar Musa said today he would not be dragged into personality disputes – “at least for now” – a day after he had posted about loyalty, and drawing comments linking them to certain personalities.
“My posting did not refer to any individual. I chose to express my opinion in general,” said Annuar, who is head of the Ketereh Umno division.
But many reports and portals had linked his remarks directly to certain individuals, he said. “There are also individuals who assumed they are who I meant.”
He said he understood that in light of current political events – “what more for those who choose to serve individuals as their profession” – public statements would continue to be used as material for personal attacks.
However he would not be dragged into it, “at least not this time” and would give priority to increasing party solidarity, and preparing the party to face the threat of its opponents.
Annuar’s remarks yesterday about loyalty, with a warning not to attack those who had served Umno for a lifetime, came a day after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said party members should not dance to the tune of Umno’s political enemies.
Yesterday, Annuar had also said he was in favour of continuing with the Muafakat Nasional (MN) alliance with PAS for the sake of Malay-Muslim unity. However, Zahid has shied away from MN, because of differences with PAS, which favours opening MN to include Bersatu, which Umno regards as an opponent.
Annuar is currently communications and multimedia minister in the government of Ismail Sabri Yaakob. - FMT
