Heavy Storm Hits Sekinchan Tanjong Karang
A heavy storm hit parts of Sekinchan and Tanjong Karang in Selangor yesterday.
Bernama reported Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar as saying that there were no injuries or casualties.
He added that the storm had affected eight houses.
However, Sekinchan assemblyperson Ng Suee Lim said on Facebook that more than 10 houses belonging to Malay and Indian farmers were severely damaged by a tornado.
He said the storm occurred in Parit Four near the Tanjong Karang parliamentary boundary.
A Facebook post from the Sabak Bernam Public Works Department yesterday said patrols and inspections were being carried out to determine the amount of damage the storm caused.
Attached to the post was a two-minute-and-12-second-long video which showed debris swirling through the air while roofs were ripped off houses.
A later report from Bernama quoted hawker Azman Mastol, 58, as saying the storm had caused damage of approximately RM120,000 to his house as part of it had been destroyed.
Azman, who grew up there, said it was the first time such a thing occurred in the area.
While the storm was running its course, he and his wife were at their eldest child's home in Putrajaya. They rushed home after a neighbour informed them of the storm.

"Upon arrival, I saw that the roof, especially in the kitchen area, was destroyed. Rainwater had flooded the house, damaging furniture and electrical appliances.
“I feel sad because this house is usually the place where my children and grandchildren gather during Hari Raya. With this condition, we may have to celebrate at our daughter’s house in Putrajaya this year,” he said.
According to the report, most houses at the scene experienced severe roof damage while exposed belongings were damaged from the heavy rain. - Mkini
