Harapan In Disbelief Over Agc Dropping Ku Nan S Corruption Case

Pakatan Harapan said it is shocked and disappointed over the Attorney-General’s Chambers' (AGC) decision to drop the corruption case of Umno’s Putrajaya MP Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
Its presidential council said the action to withdraw the appeal gave way to a bad perception and eroded public confidence towards the AGC and tainted its credibility and freedom to conduct its duty professionally.
“The presidential council will also look into possibilities that the AGC’s action has gone against the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Harapan and the government, specifically on Article 4 regarding the freedom of the judiciary institution.
“Thus, the council views that the AGC’s decision is wrong and disappointing,” it said in a statement today.
The statement was co-signed by all four Harapan presidential council members, namely Harapan and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, and Upko president Wilfred Madius Tangau.
All legal avenues
The council contended that while it understands the AGC has the power to decide whether to withdraw an appeal or not, the case involves charges of corruption against an MP and a former federal minister.
It said people demand the appeal be heard and judged until all legal avenues are exhausted.
The council added that it will scrutinise acts like this by the AGC and consider the steps to be taken next, and said the attorney-general should resign if he fails to justify his decision.
Last December, the Kuala Lumpur High Court convicted Adnan of accepting RM2 million bribes from businessperson Chai Kin Kong and sentenced him to 12 months in jail and an RM2 million fine.
The Court of Appeals then overturned the decision by a 2-1 majority, ruling that the money was a political donation.
Attorney-General Idrus Harun filed an appeal in the Federal Court in July over the decision but withdrew it last week. - Mkini
