Harapan Agrees On United Theme For Johor Polls Will Embark On Roadshow

JOHOR POLLS | Pakatan Harapan is set to campaign in the Johor state elections under a united theme.
“In relation to the Johor elections, the presidential council has decided that Harapan will prepare a series of promises under the campaign ‘Johor Bangkit: Maju, Bermaruah’.
“This will comprise aspects of economic development, social stability, as well as political reforms that will be announced before the start of the election campaign,” said the presidential council in a statement today.
The statement comes after a meeting held by Harapan’s presidential council last night.
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) president Wilfred Madius Tangau had signed the statement.
Harapan said that it will also embark on a roadshow to announce the names of its candidates in the upcoming state election after the parties’ candidates are soon finalised.
“This is to show Harapan's readiness to offer leadership that is capable of forming a more stable Johor state government and ready to develop Johor post-pandemic,” said Harapan.
Previously, the coalition had been split on the use of its logo - with the decision to have PKR use its own logo while DAP and Amanah set to contest under the Harapan logo in the upcoming elections.
The difference in opinion over a common logo had persisted since the Malacca polls - which has highlighted the tensions within Harapan.

In its statement, the council also noted the gravity of the current Covid-19 wave which saw 17,000 cases reported yesterday.
“To ensure that these conditions are not used for political purposes, the government should consider postponing the Johor state elections.
“If the government refuses to postpone (the elections) and wants to give flexibility like Western countries, then open campaigns - which include talks - should be allowed.
“What is sure is that a total lockdown cannot be imposed as it had been proven to fail before,” said Harapan. - Mkini
