Hannah Yeoh In Twitter Storm For Alleged Face Shaming Incident
What’s the issue if there is someone who resembles Rosmah, Najib or Zahid? I don’t understand why Umno people are angry if anyone looks like Rosmah.
(NST) – Hannah Yeoh has landed in a Twitter storm for likening Sungai Tiang assemblyman Datuk Suraya Yaacob’s face to Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor’s.
However, Yeoh immediately responded to those criticising her as the one “face shaming” Suraya.
Yeoh attached a news report with a picture of Suraya and wrote: “A quick glance, I thought that was Rosmah and wondering what she was doing in Kedah.”
Among those who criticised Yeoh were Umno Puteri chief Zahida Zarik Khan and Umno Subang division youth chief Alfie Zainal.
Yeoh responded by saying she would retract the tweet since it was “rude” for her to liken another woman’s face to Rosmah.
“Hello Zahida, I never ‘face shamed’ Rosman, what’s the issue if there is someone who resembles Rosmah, Najib or Zahid? I don’t understand why Umno people are angry if anyone looks like Rosmah.
“Following Umno Puteri and Pemuda’s logic, I am rude if I am likening other women to Rosmah. Okay, I retracted my earlier tweet, I don’t want to drag the issue.”
Netizens are divided on the matter, with some continuing to slam Yeoh for “face shaming”, while others said she had done nothing wrong.
Twitter user @faizalhamssin said: “Female politicians tend to receive unnecessary comments about their appearances, much more than male politicians. I love what you’ve done to champion gender equity, but this tweet of yours doesn’t seem to do justice to your stellar track record in the area. Let’s do better.”
@MasturaYoshioka said: “Face shaming. You can do better than this!”
@amuse_guele said: “How is that face shaming when all YB Hannah said was, looks like Rosmah?”
@domesticgod8 said: “face shaming is when someone says :* name * is ugly YB Hannah did nothing like that”
@TechieKitteh said: “Isn’t this the problem with ppl tho? Ppl judge Rosmah for looking a certain way, insult her for her looks, bodyshame her bc they’re angry but forget other ppl who aren’t evil can look the same way. Criticise Rosmah for her actions, not her looks. Then maybe u won’t auto offend.”
@Shedaone24 said: “Unfortunately, i feel it is pure evil to say, no one wants to be associated with Kak Mah especially when it comes to ermm…her looks”
As of publication time, Yeoh ‘s posting had yet to he removed.
