Hamzah Must Resign Or Removed
NOT shocking hearing allegations made against Hamzah Zainuddin by former IGP Hamid Bador. The multiple police reports lodged by various parties signifies the gravity of serious wrongdoing by the Home Minister.
However. I am shocked with some allegations that he used his position to flex muscle on politicians, including Umno president and 'former boss' Zahid Hamid who has been quite vocal against those who jumped ship to Bersatu after the last general election.
What is Hamzah trying to do? Turning Malaysia as another Philippines under the late Ferdinand Marcos?Or Iraq under the late Saddam Hussein? And worse, the North Korea, perhaps.
Hamid was very sharp criticising the minister days before his retirement. The wrongdoing he detailed out was no stopping. I bellieve he wouldn't have gone that far had not for the real events that had taken place since Hamzah made to the position in March last year.
And the fact that Hamid, appointed as IGP by former premier Mahathir Mohamad in 2018, 'could not expedite his duty well' due to Hamzah's interference, is very, very serious. Riding on the Home Minister post to dictate the police force is something equating what some sosialist and communist countries do, Israel for instance.
Hamid revealed that Hamzah wishes to determine who should lead the Special Branch Department (SB) in order for the latters own political gains. He also said the Home Minister has been meddling with some of the Branch’s operation. Although Hamid did not reveal any details, Hamzah is already in hot soup.
Hamid also accused Hamzah of forcing the SB to conduct several operations for its own political purposes.
Hamid had last week urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the minister and the 'jumping frogs in Perikatan Nasional' over what he described as money involvement in some MPs buying.
I think PM Muhyiddin Yassin should reset the scene by getting rid of Hamzah and clear his Cabinet from that criticism. Get the MACC to really probe Hamid's allegation.
The Prime Minister cannot ignore the multiple police reports against Hamzah, and in order to provide some credits to his government, that's the only option for now - remove Hamzah and replace him with someone with integrity. The question is, who?
What Hamzah did, if its true, is an act of insult, insolence and disregarding the statutory functions of the police force. The leaked audio clip that featured Hamzah discussing appointments with top police officers is already an earlier prove for the MACC to investigate.
Any effort to retain him will give the impression that ministers in the PN government are free to act above the law with total disregard to principles and conventions of good governance. It also means that the PN government is not serious to root out corruption.
I also believe that Zahid is not the only politician having the knife pointed at him. There could be many more. I once overheard a conversation of how Hamzah threatened to send Zahid to jail if he refuses to tango with his instruction.
The ball is at Muhyiddin's feet now...
