Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, a former home minister, described such act as excessive and politically motivated.
"Why is it necessary for the Kedah Menteri Besar to be treated like this?
"This is after he has apologised on the issue and expressed his willingness to fully cooperate with the police," he said in a statement today.
It was reported that Sanusi was detained at a hotel in Mont Kiara here in the wee hours of the morning.
The PN election director was then charged with two counts of uttering seditious remarks that could incite disloyalty towards the Rulers.
he Sessions Courts imposed RM5,000 bail for each charge after he claimed trial.
Meanwhile, Hamzah, as the opposition leader, disagreed with the action he deemed as selective prosecution and misuse of the Sedition Act for the purpose of political persecution.
"There are non-PN leaders who issued inflammatory statements but are not subject to legal action (yet)," Hamzah said.
He said it should be noted that PN will always uphold, preserve and defend the royal institution.
Hamzah also urged PN supporters to remain calm and maintain public order while praying for Sanusi to achieve justice in court. - NST
