He also said Sabahans must get vaccinated and with more vaccine supplies due to arrive in the next few days, he urged everyone to play their part to fight the pandemic.
"Get vaccinated, stay at home, practice good hygiene and avoid going out unnecessarily or attending any gatherings. These are measures we must adhere to contain the spread of Covid-19," he said in a statement.
Hajiji was on a working visit in Kuala Lumpur and had paid a courtesy visit to Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam at the latter's office.
He was accompanied by Sabah Local Government and Housing as well as Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong.
Today, Sabah recorded 3,487 new infections including 2,159 backlog cases.
Masidi, who is Sabah Covid-19 spokesman, said in his daily statement that even though the number of daily cases keeps increasing due to the backlogs, the vaccination rate is also slowly rising.
As of yesterday, 33.8 per cent of Sabah's adult population were fully vaccinated, while 54.5 per cent have been given one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Masidi said while a majority of patients (2,240) are those in the age range of 18 to 59, there are also infections among children.
"A total of 31 cases involved infants aged less than a year and 297 are children aged between 1 and 5. Another 632 cases involved 6 to 17-year-olds, while 287 cases involved those aged above 60.
"The statistic shows that 1,424 positive cases involved unvaccinated people, while 1,103 were vaccinated. Out of the vaccinated figure, 534 had been inoculated once and 569 had completed their vaccinations," he said, adding that 2,846 cases involved Malaysians, while the rest were foreigners.
Masidi said 1,992 (57.1 per cent) people tested positive through close contact screenings, 856 (24.6 per cent) through symptomatic screenings and 263 (7.5 per cent) were cases from existing clusters.
One new workplace cluster was identified in Kinabatangan and dubbed the Hamparan 2 cluster. It was sparked at an oil palm plantation in Mukim Sukau.
Masidi said the index case was a 24-year-old female clinic assistant, 24, at the estate who tested positive for Covid-19 on Aug 18, after having symptoms since Aug 12.
"She was referred to Kinabatangan Hospital for further treatment. Cumulatively, this cluster has recorded 21 cases after screenings conducted on 77 contacts including employees and dependents
"The investigation, Covid-19 sampling, and disinfection are still ongoing," Masidi said.
The state also registered 26 fatalities – 11 in Tawau, nine in Kota Kinabalu, three in Putatan, and one each in Pitas, Papar and Keningau. - NST
