Hajiji Assures Sabah Flood Victims Of Cash Food Aid

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor today assured the state’s flood victims that the state government would help reduce their burden by rendering cash and food aid. - Bernama file picKOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor today assured the state's flood victims that the state government would help reduce their burden by rendering cash and food aid.
He said the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-helmed state government sympathises with the victims and would ensure that aid was distributed to those affected by the disaster.
"The government through the Public Welfare Services Department and National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) will give assistance in terms of food for all evacuees and food baskets worth RM200 each for every households.
"Nadma will also distribute RM500 cash to each family. This will be coordinated by the Civil Defence Department and relevant district offices, " he said.
Hajiji had in the morning visited the district disaster operations control centre at Dewan Seri Sulaman in Tuaran and later visited flood relief centres at the Dewan Masyarakat Likas as well as the sports complex in Penampang.
Present during the visit in Penampang were state secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong, Penampang member of parliament Datuk Darell Leiking and district police chief deputy superintendent Mohd Haris Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Parti Bersatu Sabah Moyog division chief John Chryso Masabal said the government has to expedite its flood mitigation projects to ease the people's worries.
"The state's rainfall has been unpredictable lately, causing floods to occur more frequently, especially in Penampang.
"We believe that flood mitigation works should be expedited to ease the people's worries, especially during rainy seasons," he said, adding that such disaster disrupts the people's lives and causes losses to businesses.
As of 4pm, the number of people evacuated to nine relief centres stood at 348 from 191 villages in nine districts in the state. - NST
