Hadi Dap Condemn Israeli Violence At Jerusalem S Al Aqsa Mosque
The Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to the Middle East Abdul Hadi Awang has condemned the clashes between Israeli police and Palestinian youths at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on Friday.
“I strongly condemn the atrocious attack by the Israeli Zionist regime on Muslims in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the first qibla of the Muslims, which left more than 178 Palestinians injured as they were gathering in the compound of the mosque,” Abdul Hadi said in a statement today.
The PAS president said the Israeli police committed “atrocities” by using rubber bullets and stun grenades, among others, on the Palestinians as well as arresting those who took refuge inside the mosque grounds.
“Adding to the existing suffering, these inhumane actions took place while Muslims were performing prayers at the end of the holy month of Ramadan,” he said.
It was previously reported that Israeli police fired rubber bullets and stun grenades towards rock-hurling Palestinian youth at the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Friday amid growing anger over the potential eviction of Palestinians from homes on land claimed by Jewish settlers.
At least 205 Palestinians and 17 officers were injured in the clashes at the mosque and in around East Jerusalem as thousands of Palestinians faced off with several hundred Israeli police in riot gear.
Tens of thousands of Palestinians had packed into the compound surrounding the Al-Aqsa Mosque earlier on Friday for prayers and many stayed on to protest against the evictions.
There have also been nightly clashes in the East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah where numerous Palestinian families face eviction in a long-running legal case.
“Therefore, I call upon all Muslims to supplicate to Allah SWT for the well-being of Muslims and join hands to continue our protest in solidarity with our brothers in the land of al-Quds.
“The issue of Palestine is not just the issue of Muslims but it is a universal humanitarian issue,” Abdul Hadi said.
He also urged all parties in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Arab League as well as the entire Muslim world to take firm action and condemn the actions of the Israeli government in the holy month of Ramadan.
In a separate statement, DAP also condemned the clashes, saying an attack on a place of worship was an act of terrorism.
“It should not happen, let alone during Ramadan and with Aidilfitri coming soon.
“Israel should have looked for a way to reduce the conflict in the Middle East which is growing concerning instead of choosing violence,” said DAP international secretary Teo Nie Ching in a statement today. - Mkini
