Guan Eng Warns Ismail Could Be Worst Pm Cites Flood And Macc Fiascos

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng warned that Ismail Sabri Yaakob could end up as the worst prime minister in the country's history.
He cited the government's blunders during the recent floods, as well as the scandal surrounding MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki as factors.
"The failed management of the flood disasters in several states recently which caused more than 50 deaths and an estimated RM20 billion in economic losses is a black stain on Ismail Sabri’s record.
"(It) can only be compounded adversely by his failure to act against Azam.
"These two failures will prove that Ismail Sabri will be worse than Muhyiddin Yassin and leave him with the unenviable record as the worst prime minister in Malaysian history," Lim (above) said in a statement today.
At least 54 people have died in recent floods.
The first wave of the deluge in mid-December was caused by a tropical depression - which the public had little warning about - that triggered flash floods in the Klang Valley and caught authorities off guard.
The second wave of flooding followed soon after due to monsoon rains.
Meanwhile, Azam is under fire after it emerged that he held millions in shares and warrants in two publicly listed companies during his tenure as MACC investigations director.
The MACC chief claimed his brother had used his account to buy the shares and denied any wrongdoing.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri YaakobLim's statement chastised Ismail Sabri for not acting against Azam and keeping mum.
However, around the time the statement was issued, Ismail Sabri broke his silence.
The prime minister asked for authorities to be given space to investigate the MACC chief, and for others not to jump to conclusions or presume guilt.
Besides the flood mismanagement and Azam's scandal, Lim said other factors working against Ismail Sabri include the Covid-19 pandemic situation and the economy's poor performance.
"Under Ismail Sabri’s watch as prime minister... the Covid-19 pandemic has not improved with 31,644 deaths and 2,769,533 infections as of Jan 7.
"Malaysia posted the worst economic growth in Asean with a -4.5 percent contraction for the third quarter of 2021 following the failures of the serial total lockdowns," the former finance minister said.
'Very weak PM'
Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub also voiced discontent with Ismail Sabri.
Amanah deputy president Salahuddin AyubIn a tweet, he urged the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to act against Ismail Sabri, whom he called a "very weak" prime minister.
He too cited the flood mismanagement and Azam's scandal as Ismail Sabri's failures.
"Do something and say something, Your Majesty. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark," he said.
