Guan Eng Top Income Earner Exceeding Rm1 Million A Year
Guan Eng’s income double that of Irwan Serigar
(FMT) – A list published by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has put Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng ahead of 47 other MPs from the ruling coalition as well as Cabinet members who recently declared their income to the anti-graft body.
The DAP secretary-general, with an income of RM86,464.92 as declared by him on Oct 10, is followed by his PKR counterpart Saifuddin Nasution, who stated his income of RM77,629.68.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad came in third with an income of RM75,861.57.
Petaling Jaya MP and former Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah appears to be the “poorest” among them, with her income stated as RM21,000.
The list does not state the nature of the income or its frequency, with some of the MPs declaring income combined with that of their spouses and children.
An MP takes home a monthly income of RM25,700, including allowances, transport and telephone costs as well as for attending meetings.
When contacted, Maria told FMT that the RM21,000 stated as her income on the MACC list was based on what she received in May and June.
