Maya Ahmad Fuaad was previously given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal for the offence of lodging a false report against Mathurai Veeran Krishnan under Section 182 of the Penal Code
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with a representative for Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P Waytha Moorthy, Justice for Veeran spokesman Arun Dorasamy said they now had new hope
He added that the group was trying to get the case against Maya reinstated before Monday, when her legal team will go to the Shah Alam High Court to seek a full acquittal
“All we want is to reinstate the case against Maya so that Veeran will have a day in court to exonerate himself
“In the new Malaysia, which follows the rule of law, there is no place for invisible hands,” Arun said
Maya, the daughter of a former Malaysia Airlines Bhd managing director, filed a police report against Veeran on June 30 last year, accusing him of molesting her daughter who was four at the time
She said her ex-husband was aware of the crime but had kept quiet about it to avoid jeopardising his custody battle
Veeran had been working as a driver for the family of Maya’s ex-husband
No action was taken against Veeran due to the amount of evidence refuting Maya’s claims. However, Veeran said his reputation had been tarnished, making it difficult for him to find another job
In April, Maya was charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code with lodging a false report. On Oct 1, however, Veeran was informed that the prosecution had received instructions from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to drop the case against Maya
Justice for Veeran submitted a letter of representation to AG Tommy Thomas last week, asking for the case against Maya to be reinstated
However, Arun said they received no official letter on the matter following the AGC’s immediate response that it would review the decision
“We are still waiting for the official announcement from the AGC. We need it so that the case on Monday can be postponed until a decision is made on whether or not to reinstate the case against Maya
“All we ask for from Thomas is to please reinstate the case against Maya and advise the deputy public prosecutor to postpone the case on Monday.”Today’s memorandum was submitted to Waytha’s political secretary, Muniandy Ponnasamy. It details the chronology of the case and asks that justice be served and for the rule of law to prevail. - Mkini
