Govt Wants Mydigital Id 5g Network Issues Resolved By February

PETALING JAYA: The digital ministry hopes to see resolutions on the MyDigital ID initiative and second 5G network by next month, says its minister Gobind Singh Deo.
He said this in response to delays in implementing the two initiatives, Berita Harian reported.
Last month, it was reported that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had expressed his disappointment over the delays and had cited unresponsive negotiations involving Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and telecommunications companies (telcos) on the two initiatives.
Gobind said he hopes the issues can be resolved by the next National Council of Digital Economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) meeting on Feb 12.
“We will do the best we can to resolve these matters during this meeting. There have been various issues, and (the two initiatives) involve multiple ministries,” he told reporters in Tambun, Perak today.
In December, Anwar said the proper implementation of MyDigital ID had been delayed by nearly a year.
“Similarly, the rollout of the second 5G network and negotiations between DNB and telcos have also stalled.
“Reminders issued a year ago remain unanswered by both parties, which caused me to lose patience,” he said.
The MyDigital ID initiative, announced by Anwar in November 2023, is intended to serve as a secure and trusted digital identification system for Malaysians.
It was previously announced that citizens would be required to log into the MyJPJ app using MyDigital ID as part of Malaysia’s push for digitalisation and streamlined access to government services.
This announcement sparked mixed reactions, with some asking why the identification system was compulsory as the MyDigital ID app often froze or lagged.
Transport minister Loke Siew Fook subsequently said users could continue to access the MyJPJ app without having to log in with their MyDigital ID accounts. He added that no official decision had been made on the use of the MyDigital ID to access the MyJPJ app. - FMT
