Govt Allocations For Bagan Lower Than Opposition Held Areas Guan Eng
PARLIAMENT | Lim Guan Eng has rubbished claims that opposition MPs do not get sufficient government allocations.
According to the Bagan MP, his constituency received the lowest share of allocations compared to two other neighbouring constituencies held by Perikatan Nasional representatives.
"We often hear opposition MPs saying that they do not get allocations and that there's discrimination.
"But I want to give some numbers about the Seberang Perai North district, where there are three parliamentary seats, namely Kepala Batas, Tasek Gelugor, and Bagan.
"Here, the one that gets the lowest share of government allocations is 'government parliamentary seat' Bagan," Lim said during the debate on the royal decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Lim cited several instances as examples, including an RM8.5 million allocation from the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry for Kepala Batas, while Bagan received none.
"The Youth and Sports Ministry also allocated RM3 million to Kepala Batas, while Bagan received nothing. The Education Ministry gave RM83 million, also to Kepala Batas, while Bagan only received RM500,000.
"Given these examples, Kepala Batas received 99.4 percent more (allocation) from these three ministries, compared to only 0.6 percent for Bagan," he said.
"This shows that opposition areas are not sidelined. Where's the discrimination? Instead, it is the 'government seat' which lacks allocations," Lim added.
Opposition lawmakers have claimed that they do not receive sufficient allocations for their constituencies.
Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muda-Muar) claimed that his constituency allocation was withdrawn since he quit the government bloc in Parliament.
The lack of allocations has been used as a basis for several Bersatu MPs to voice their support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, citing the well-being of their constituents. - Mkini
