Gov T Activates Rapid Response Teams With Detection Of Coronavirus
CORONAVIRUS | The Health Ministry has activated all of its Rapid Response Teams (RRT) and Rapid Assessment Teams (RAT) on the ground following last night's detection of new coronavirus cases in the country
Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said the teams that are stationed at the ministry's facilities nationwide, including hospitals and clinics, are tasked with carrying out contact tracing activities
All health services personnel have also been alerted to give serious attention to their utilisation of personal protective equipment and to practice optimum infection control and prevention measures at all times
"Patient screening at all health facilities must be done thoroughly to ensure that cases that fit the criteria would be referred for further investigations
"The ministry looks at this infection spread incident seriously and thus we have issued a procedure on this matter for all public and private health facilities
"This procedure will be used as a reference by all health personnel on the ground to detect, handle and manage individuals suspected to have contracted the 2019-nCoV
This morning, Dzulkefly (above) announced at a press conference that health authorities had confirmed three positive cases of the novel coronavirus
The three, he said, are two children aged 2 and 11, and their 66-year-old grandmother. All of them are from Wuhan and related to the two men from China who were tested positive for the virus by Singapore Health Ministry three days ago
All three of them are now at an isolation ward at the Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment
Besides the three, the Health Ministry also were alerted to a total of 11 suspected cases since Jan 22 involving eight Malaysians who recently travelled to China, two China nationals from Wuhan and a Jordanian
Tests for 10 of them turned up negative while another is still pending
Dzulkefly said the pending case involves a Malaysian who has travel history to China and he is now being warded at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. - Mkini
