Give Sabah What It S Due
YOURSAY | ‘Sabah isn’t asking for more; it’s demanding what was promised.’
Allocations to Sabah not the same as 40pct revenue rights - Upko
Sabah's 40pct revenue: Govt to decide next action after AG's advice
PM to brief Parliament on Sabah special grant
Variant: Yearly budget allocations come down via every ministry. These are federal funding obligations and cannot be equated to the 40 percent, which is an agreement over transfer payments.
Equating the two is basically misleading and also gaslighting. An agreement is an agreement; you have to fulfil it.
If the current coalition is uninterested in fulfilling federal funding obligations, then they should step down and let a different coalition form the government.
Anwar has no credibility left; he has gaslighted everyone.
This, together with the lack of reforms and also the broken promises to his moderate support base, has sealed his fate in the next general election.
GRS_SABAH: Many peninsular folks don’t realise federal allocations (RM13 billion in 2022, RM14 billion in 2023-24, RM17 billion in 2025) are not Sabah's 40 percent constitutional revenue rights under MA63.
These rights mean 40 percent of net federal revenue derived from Sabah taxes, oil, and gas owed since 1974.
Sabah has paid billions yearly in federal taxes and petroleum revenue, yet receives only a fraction back.
Estimates RM341 billion owed from 1974-2021.
Sabah isn’t asking for more; it’s demanding what was promised. Equal partnership, not charity.
World Citizen: According to the prime minister, the amounts allocated to Sabah were RM13 billion in 2022, RM14 billion in 2023 and 2024, and RM17 billion for 2025.
According to United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) deputy president Donald Peter Mojuntin, Sabah should get another 40 percent of the federal revenue from the state on top of that.
So, how much in total should Sabah be given?
Isn’t this asking too much? Then what about the other states?
They get a pittance despite much bigger contributions by some of these other states?
Don’t be too greedy, Mojuntin.
Please learn how to govern the state with integrity and honesty first before demanding heaven and earth.
Bornean: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, no need to talk and explain so much. We have eyes and brains.
Why has your Finance Ministry not given Sabah the breakdown of the tax net revenue collected each year from 1974 to date, after so many official requests from the Sabah government?
Yes, some of the MA63’s conditions have been implemented, but not on finances.
By the way, there are no “misleading interpretations” by the High Court judge, it’s you who is trying to mislead the Parliament and Malaysians.
MarioT: Sabahans should demand the implementation of the terms of the agreement formulated at the time of joining Malaysia.
Your leaders, past and present, were well taken care of by the main political party in the peninsula, and they did not press on for your rights.
Let this election be the turning point to appoint people you can trust and safeguard your rights.
Veteran 1972: Sabah is going to get the middle finger the same way the veterans have been asking for the streamlining of pensions for those who retired before 2013.
The court ruled in the pensioners’ favour, but unfortunately, the present government appealed the favourable rulings of the court, which was sympathetic to the veterans who were maimed and killed in the line of duty.
Anonymous_3f4b: What is there for the attorney-general to brief? Just pay the 40 percent grant, which Sabah is entitled to under the Federal Constitution from 1974 onwards, without fail.
No excuses and explanations needed, and more importantly, no appeal must be filed.
Hmmmmmmmm: How long does the government have before they have to decide?
Will it be after the Sabah elections or before? If it is after the elections, and they win, I am very sure there will be an appeal.
BlueShark1548: Anwar has no choice but to appeal. Hard choices, either Umno and Malay support or Sabah elections.
He has to sacrifice Pakatan Harapan’s interests in Sabah, as it would save his status in Putrajaya and the 16th general election.
GoldenParrot4280: So, if 40 percent revenue, then zero other contributions?
Would that be ok with those clamouring for the federal government not to appeal?
Boss Malu: The best interest is to honour the 40 percent payment as per MA63, backdated to 1974, with interest.
Anything less is cheating! Don’t “sakau” here and there. Sabah for Sabahans!
BlueCougar1744: Pay what is due to Sabah per the Federal Constitution.
Time for the federal government to come clean once and for all.
Annonimous 4500: Sabah and Sarawak need to be developed to generate wealth for the states.
These investments are needed from the private sector from the mainland, and citizens should be allowed to travel freely and settle in any part.
Tall Story: First, get the special allocations from the prime minister, and then also all the 40 percent state revenue backdated. It is now election time in Sabah. - Mkini
