Supply of clean water continues to be a problem in Kelantan, with many tube wells being dug even in Kota Bharu to obtain water for daily use. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Natural resources, environment and climate change minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has told Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) to ensure good governance if it wants to solve the water issues afflicting Kelantan.
Nik Nazmi said Kelantan’s water woes will never be resolved unless AKSB addresses its governance issues.
He said this was conveyed to AKSB’s top management during a meeting yesterday with the Kelantan executive councillor in charge of water management, Azami Nor.
“Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim previously stated the federal government’s commitment to resolving the water issues in Kelantan. We are ready to look at the finances, especially for the construction of water treatment plants and pipe replacements.
“My ministry will also hold follow-up discussions with the finance and economy ministries to look for the best solution together,” he said in a statement.
Supply of clean water continues to be a problem in Kelantan, with many tube wells being dug even in the state capital of Kota Bharu to obtain water for daily use.
Recently, a copy of a purported circular claiming that each of AKSB’s board members received a RM10,000 bonus went viral.
According to the circular, AKSB’s directors received a RM10,000 bonus while the staff received RM200 each.
AKSB senior manager Nazmi Ghazali Azmi sidestepped queries on the circular, instead saying the sharing of confidential documents was an offence under the Official Secrets Act. - FMT
