Gerakan Rather Sit Out Polls Than Use Moon Logo In Pas States
Gerakan will sit out of the 15th general election (GE15) in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu if Perikatan Nasional (PN) decides to use the PAS logo to contest there.
Party deputy president Oh Tong Keong said they will still use the PN logo as Gerakan joined the coalition in February 2021.
He pointed out that it is Gerakan’s principle to not adopt the PAS logo in the polls.
Oh said Gerakan will never be like DAP which is a party without a firm stand that used the logo of its ally PKR in the last general election just to win.
On that note, he said, his party will only adopt PN’s logo similar to how it adopted BN’s when it was formerly with the latter, and stressed that Gerakan will not use the logo of its allies, such as the logos of Umno or MCA when it was still part of BN.
“Gerakan reiterates that its candidates in both state and parliamentary constituencies would adopt the PN logo, but not the logo of its allies.
Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong“If this is PN’s final decision, we would rather withdraw from the election and there is no room for negotiation,” Oh said in a statement today.
Gerakan logo request for Penang
For Penang, Oh said Gerakan will adhere to PN’s decision if its request to use its party logo in the northern state is rejected.
“Penang Gerakan made a request to PN to use our own logo in the forthcoming election.
“If PN decides not to allow it, we will adhere to PN’s strategic arrangement and will use the PN logo instead,” the Penang Gerakan chief added.
Penang Gerakan is still hopeful that the PN presidential council will consider the wishes of its grassroots to adopt the party logo in the state.
“We, however, would not request that our allies adopt the Gerakan logo in Penang. They can use the PN logo or their own (party’s) logo,” Oh said.
On Sept 18, Oh proposed that Penang Gerakan be allowed to use its own logo in GE15 because many still perceived the party as being part of BN.
In the 2018 general election, Gerakan contested 22 parliamentary seats and 33 state seats under the BN ticket. It failed to win a single seat.
In a statement today, Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan said the PN supreme council will soon hold a meeting to finalise the coalition’s logo for GE15. - Mkini
