Gerakan wants Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow to explain why he had announced that the Penang South Reclamation (PSR) project had been given federal approval, when Putrajaya said otherwise
Gerakan deputy chief Oh Tong Keong said that there is a big difference between the words “approved” and “yet to be approved”
"Is this Chow's misinterpretation (of the words), or is he purposely misleading the people? This is an unforgivable mistake. I hope he will make it clear to everyone," Oh said in a statement
He went on to ask why the chief minister had said that the PSR received approval from the National Physical Planning Council (NPPC), when the federal government denied doing so
Chow was forced to backtrack on the announcement when Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said the NPPC has given the go-ahead for the PSR and the creation of three islands in Bayan Lepas
Oh asked if the chief minister had "an ulterior motive" for making the announcement about PSR’s supposed approval yesterday after attending the National Physical Planning Council (NPPC) in Putrajaya
Chow had then issued a statement to the press saying the approval came with 18 points of advice, which he revealed in Penang today
Non-governmental organisations had said they were “shocked and disturbed” by the announcement, given that activists had just given feedback on the reclamation project last month
However, Khalid said the council had merely given the Penang government 18 conditions to consider
"Why is it that Pakatan Harapan ministers often have great differences among them? Their statements are always contradictory," Oh, who is state Gerakan chief, said
"Had they really attended the same meeting? Why so many U-turns in Harapan?" he queried
The PSR is part of the state's mega-transport master plan, which purportedly cost RM46 billion
Creation and development of the three artificial islands is supposed to finance the Penang Transport Master Plan, which includes an undersea tunnel linking the island to the mainland, the Pan Island Link 1 Highway, and three paired roads to address the state's traffic woes.  - Mkini
