Gambling Dens Burger Stall Owner Urges Public To Stop Lambasting Cops
A burger stall franchise owner, who exposed the existence of gambling dens in Sungai Buloh, urged the public to stop lambasting the police
Mohd Asri Hamid (above) said after his Facebook videos showing gambling dens and illegal stalls went viral, criticism against police had proliferated
"I noticed that many people criticised the police (after watching the shared video)
"Please refrain from doing that, we need to help the police. They are our hope," he said in an interview via Facebook live today
Previously, the businessperson claimed he had reported the vice operations to the police
It led to authorities raiding the premises only for a brief closure before they resumed operations, he said, adding that certain individuals had also approached his burger stall staff to ask if they had made a complaint against the gambling dens
Sungai Buloh police chief Shafa'aton Abu Bakar had said that Mohd Asri's videos could be defamatory and ruin the police's image
The police and Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) had filed police reports against him
She said the police had in fact raided six gambling premises in the area. Earlier today, Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) director Zamri Yahya told Malaysiakini that the police were probing the possible involvement of Sungai Buloh police officers in protecting gambling dens in the area
Gambling towkays open two more premises after complaintMohd Asri claimed that after he complained to the police about the gambling dens, an individual had approached his staff at the burger stall
"One of the premises' workers asked my staff - 'why did you disturb my business?'
"Do you know what happened after that? They opened another two premises, one is very near to my burger stall. It is as if they had challenged us," he said
Empty during raid, back at it two hours later Meanwhile, Persatuan Pengguna Islam Malaysia lead activist Nadzim Johan said in his experience following raid operations against vice premises, two instances would happen
"When the enforcement team arrives, there's nobody in the shop. It's empty
"How did it become empty? It means the news (about the raid) had reached the operators
"That, or when the team raided and seized the paraphernalia, in two hours, the gambling den resumed its operations with new equipment," he added
He noted Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador's (below) commitment to eradicating illegal gambling operations
"But we must understand, he cannot do the job alone. (The activity) has become a norm in society," Nadzim said
Two days ago, Hamid reiterated his stand to not compromise with parties involved in illegal gambling activities
"Gambling ruins society as it would lead to other crimes
"The police would investigate the individual's (Mohd Asri) claims on the gambling activities in the area," he told Sinar Harian. - Mkini
