Form One Student Pleads Guilty To Assaulting Teacher In Viral Incident
A Form One student who was caught on video punching his teacher has pleaded guilty to causing injury at the Kajang Magistrate’s Court today.
According to Sinar Harian, the proceedings were held behind closed doors before Magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil, as the accused is a juvenile.
The 14-year-old remove class (peralihan) student was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt - an offence that carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
The court has set Sept 11 for sentencing, pending a character report from the Social Welfare Department.
The teenager was accused of deliberately injuring a 29-year-old male teacher at a secondary school at about 4.48pm on July 28. A video recording of the altercation quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention.
Kajang district police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof previously confirmed that the student was arrested the same day, following a police report lodged by the teacher.
The teenager was remanded for two days to facilitate investigations.
Naazron said the incident occurred after the teacher reprimanded the student for skipping physical education class.
“The student was unhappy with the reprimand and responded aggressively by punching and threatening the victim,” he said.
Four students suspended
In a separate development, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said four students have been suspended, while 14 others received warning letters for their involvement in a violent altercation at a secondary school in Kuala Lumpur that went viral on social media.

Education Minister Fadhlina SidekShe confirmed that the actions were taken in line with the Education Ministry’s disciplinary procedures to ensure the safety of the school community.
“The suspended students will participate in community service programmes organised by the district education office as part of their rehabilitation.
“Counselling sessions will also be provided to help the students reform their behaviour,” Fadhlina said in a Facebook post.
She stressed that the ministry will not tolerate actions that jeopardise the safety of educational institutions. - Mkini
