Flysiswa Subsidy To Be Increased To Rm400 Next Year
The FLYsiswa initiative is set to benefit 60,000 students who use domestic flights to travel between the peninsula and Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.SHAH ALAM: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the subsidy for the FLYsiswa initiative will be increased from RM300 to RM400 from Jan 1
The initiative, introduced last year, initially offered a subsidy of RM300 to students studying across the South China Sea to purchase flight tickets home to celebrate a festive season.
It is for students who study in the public universities, polytechnics, and community colleges under the higher education ministry.
“I’d like to announce that starting next year, the subsidy will be increased to RM400,” Anwar said when opening the FLYsiswa carnival at Universiti Teknologi Mara here today.
At a press conference later, transport minister Loke Siew Fook said the initiative would benefit 60,000 students who use domestic flights to travel between Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
Loke said the initiative is in line with the government’s efforts to tackle the rising cost of living.
In a statement later, the transport ministry said students can check their eligibility through the ministry’s website at https://subsidiudara.mot.gov.my/ starting from Jan 1.
It said since the implementation of FLYsiswa (until Dec 10), a total of 74,500 students (or 73%) of the total 102,150 students have benefited from the flight ticket subsidy assistance.
This included 37,551 students (or 75%) of 50,095 students in 2023 and 36,949 students (or 71%) of all 52,055 students who have redeemed their respective digital vouchers with national airlines until Dec 10 this year. - FMT
