Fear Of The Digit 4 Douglas Lim Hits Nail On Head Mocking Those Making Mountains Out Of Molehills

LOCAL comedian Douglas Lim does seem to have the knack for capturing the zeitgeist. First, there was his scathing monologue that poked fun at Kepala Batas MP Dr Siti Mastura Muhammad’s blurriness” over Chinese surnames.
The popular stand-up has hit the nail on the head again with a video mocking those who constantly seek to divide Malaysians by highlighting non-issues.

In the video, Lim is seen questioning the need to kowtow to Chinese superstitions by replacing the digit ‘4’ with ‘3A’ in addresses, lifts and parking bays.

He was apparently making the comments in the basement carpark of the KLCC pointing to a bay marked “13A”. However, his diatribe fizzled out when the camera man focused in on the parking bay behind which carried the number “14A”!
The short clip uploaded onto Lim’s X (formerly Twitter) page has generated over 127,000 views at time of writing and no small amount of guffaws.

A few netizens queried why Malaysians are fond of belittling each community’s set of pntang larang (superstitions).

Some pointed out that perhaps current calendars in Malaysia should read ‘2023A’ instead.

One netizen hilariously suggested imposing this superstition on telephone numbers.

Another netizen seemed to capture the current climate perfectly with a simple comment.

The short clip certainly highlights the silliness of it all and how some vindictive parties are seemingly hell-bent on nit-picking on non-issues to create tension and disharmony.
It is certainly refreshing to see so many comments agreeing with the popular comedian and being able to laugh at the absurdity of the situation.
For his comic routine that seems to able to get all races laughing, one netizen even proposed giving Lim a Cabinet portfolio.
