Family Of 7 Evacuated After Tanjong Karang Flood
The Selangor division of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department moved a family of seven in the town of Tanjong Karang to a safe place after their house was hit by floods, early this morning.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said all the victims were moved to the homes of neighbours when the area, including the Tanjong Karang Public Market, was flooded with water about 1m-high at 4.10am.
He told Berita Harian that the flood occurred following a burst bund which caused the overflow of Sungai Kajang.
“The fire department received a call regarding the incident at 4.07am and a team of eight members along with machinery from the Tanjong Karang Fire and Rescue Station were sent to the scene of the incident.
“Initially, the water of Sungai Kajang overflowed around the town of Tanjong Karang but did not affect the houses of the surrounding residents.
“However, at 5.24am, the fire brigade found that the water had risen to a level of 1m around the Tanjong Karang Public Market area,” he said when contacted today.
Following that, he said, the department carried out two transfers involving a family of seven, including an elderly woman aged 70 years.
“The victims consisted of four men and three women, they were all moved to an area not flooded which is Jalan Kilang Padi.
“At 6.13am, it was found that the water began to show a downward trend. However, the fire brigade is still monitoring the situation,” he said. - Mkini
