Families Not Allowed To Circumvent Two Per Household Rule In Multiple Vehicles
Families who attempt to circumvent the rule that only two persons per household are allowed to leave for necessities will be fined RM1,000 for breaching conditional movement control order (MCO) rules.
This is even if they abide by the two per vehicle rule but travel in multiple vehicles.
National Internal Security and Public Order Department director Abd Rahim Jaafar stressed today that the National Security Council (NSC) stipulates only two per household are allowed to leave the house.
Families, however, were trying to leave their homes in a group and giving the authorities various excuses.
"If people are making their own interpretations of the standard operating procedures, then the CMCO would lose its effect," Abd Rahim was reported as saying by Sin Chew Daily.
According to the NSC’s standard operating procedure, only two per household are allowed to leave the house whether to buy food, necessities or dine.
The conditional MCO is currently enforced in all states and territories except in Perlis, Kelantan, Pahang and Sarawak in a bid to stop the spread of Covid-19.
As of noon yesterday, there were 11,308 persons who were being treated for Covid-19, up from 3,836 just a month ago.
Leeway allowed for ‘two per vehicle’ rule
Meanwhile, Johor police chief Ayob Khan was quoted by Nanyang Siang Pau today as saying that some leeway was possible for the two per vehicle rule.
Exceptions could be made if, for example, working parents had to take their children to a babysitter.
“If the car is big and passengers in the car can observe physical distancing, then even four people are allowed. Everything is dependent on the situation. It is not a rigid rule,” he was quoted as saying.
Previously, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob said those who intend to travel with more than two persons per vehicle must obtain permission from the police. - Mkini
