Fahmi Threatens More Legal Actions Over Coldplay Comment Slander
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil has threatened to sue more individuals who had allegedly twisted his comments made on the success of the recent Coldplay concert in Kuala Lumpur.
Speaking to reporters at the end of PKR 17th annual congress in Putrajaya, Fahmi said his original comment, which had been taken out of context and shared online, was made in response to a journalist from Malay-daily Berita Harian.
"I will ask my lawyer to scrutinise all parties who shared this slander and we will take legal actions against them," he added.
Fahmi did not name the individuals but he later shared in a PKR media WhatsApp group a screenshot of an alleged posting by an NGO leader, accusing him of being grateful to God for the success of a "sinful programme".
The posting was accompanied by a graphic that showed Fahmi smiling and the wording, "Konsert Coldplay: 'Alhamdulillah, berjalan dengan lancar" (Coldplay concert went on smoothly).
He also shared his original quotes as reported by Berita Harian, where he expressed gratitude that Coldplay's concert was the result of good cooperation between the organiser, artist and authorities.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi FadzilFahmi further reminded that he had recently filed legal actions against other individuals for alleged defamation, and warned others against sharing slanderous contents.
"Once again I'm advising netizens, even if you're looking for (online) traffic, do not reach the point of slander or inciting hate... including against me.
"So I will take legal actions in this matter," he added. - Mkini
