Explain Shah Alam Stadium Deal Selangor Govt Told
In July, the Selangor government said it had appointed MRCB to carry out the Shah Alam stadium project in a private-public partnership.PETALING JAYA: The Selangor state government has been urged to explain the terms of a deal for redevelopment of the sports complex in Shah Alam.
The environmental group, Green Party Malaysia asked if the terms were for refurbishment or for demolition and rebuilding of the Shah Alam stadium.
“Did it include the construction of a hotel, a shopping mall and a commercial centre? Did it include a land swap as well?” the group’s secretary Abdul Razak Ismail said in a statement.
He also questioned if the plans called for a smaller new stadium for only 35,000 spectators instead of the current stadium’s capacity of 85,000.
He said the state government should confirm whether the terms of reference given to Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) were the same for all companies bidding for the project.
Last week, Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari had said the state government was looking at several sites in Klang and Hulu Selangor as part of a proposed land swap to finance the cost of building a proposed new sports complex in the state capital.
Razak said that a model of the stadium displayed in Shah Alam last month appeared to show that the state government had “changed its mind” on the design of the stadium.
He called for the state government to reveal the true cost quoted for restoring the existing stadium, saying that state assemblyman Ronnie Liu (DAP-Sg Pelek) had suggested that the cost of RM787 million quoted was too high.
The Selangor government said in July that it had appointed MRCB to carry out the project through a private-public partnership after screening some 15 other firms.
Amirudin said then that MRCB was selected for its technical ability and financial standing as well as its involvement in the restoration of the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil in 2017. - FMT
