Ex Mp Claims Political Revenge After Posting On Guan Eng S Son
Former Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng has claimed "selective political persecution and revenge" over two recent police actions against him
He was first issued a notice for using an illegal cordless phone at his home in Nibong Tebal by officers from the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission
After that, Tan said a police superintendent from Putrajaya seized his phone following his Facebook post about Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng's son's jacket, which allegedly cost thousands
"When I was in PKR between 2008 to 2010, I condemned and criticised BN but was never probed by anyone," claimed Tan, 46, who quit PKR in 2010 to become an independent MP until 2013
"I sensed it's selective political persecution and revenge. Looks like I have offended someone who cannot be offended," he said at a press conference in his home along Gurney Drive today
In his FB, Tan had quizzed Lim’s son for wearing a designer jacket, while DAP supporters toiled under the hot sun selling The Rocket, the party's newsletter
A photo of Lim travelling with his family on an economy flight to Australia was shared too
Netizens praised the minister for his humility, but then another photo of Lim's son in his Givenchy jacket was posted too
In the same post, Tan had uploaded a screenshot of Mr Porter, an online shop selling designer clothing, which showed the Givenchy jacket to cost about RM6,208 (£1,180)
"The police officer said my phone will be returned to me personally in Penang, once a forensic investigation has been carried out."However, Tan said he fears that his phone and the data in it would be misused for illegal purposes
Meanwhile, he said a report was lodged against him in Putrajaya but the police declined to reveal the complainant
"I want to send a message to the complainant, don't use police resources to silent me, I am just a normal citizen," Tan said
"I would like to ask the complainant, is my FB post insulting or affecting your reputation or defamatory? I have never questioned your ability to buy the jacket but just asked you to take care of the welfare of the DAP’s grassroots." -Mkini
