Ex Johor Exco Wants Rts Land Issue Settled Amicably

The Rapid Transit System (RTS) is being planned to ease congestion at the Causeway.JOHOR BAHRU: The Bukit Chagar land issue connected with the Rapid Transit System (RTS) should be settled in the best way possible without incurring extra costs, said former Johor state executive councillor Mazlan Bujang today
Mazlan said he knew that the 4.5ha piece of land in Bukit Chagar was earmarked for the Johor-Singapore RTS when he headed the state works, infrastructure and transport committee
“The Bukit Chagar land issue (concerns) a federal project, not the state government
“The RTS project is between the Malaysian and Singapore governments,” said Mazlan, who was dropped from the state executive council last month
“Let Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad settle it amicably and we also hope we can save the people ‘s money
“We do not want the people’s money to be used for non-essential purposes,” he told reporters after opening a rural well-being programme with the Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) here
Mazlan said the RTS project was inked between Malaysia and Singapore during the time of the Barisan Nasional government
Yesterday, Mahathir said the federal government would claim back that piece of land in Bukit Chagar if it is true that it had been transferred to the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, without going through the proper process
If the land had been bought by any party, the government would buy it back because it is federal land, he said
Today, the Sultan of Johor’s private secretary Jaba Mohd Noah said Sultan Ibrahim is willing to hand over the land he owns in Bukit Chagar to the government for free if it is to be used for the RTS project

In a statement, Jaba said the Sultan of Johor expressed disappointment over a news report linking the cost increase of RTS to the piece of land he owns in Bukit Chagar, adding that the Sultan was never told that his land would be used for the project. - FMT
