Former Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd (SMM) CEO Jontih Enggihon’s lawyer has announced plans to subpoena Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and eight assemblypersons implicated in a corruption scandal.
Speaking at Warisan’s Chinese New Year open house in Kota Kinabalu this morning, lawyer Chin Tek Ming hinted at dramatic courtroom proceedings, urging the audience to prepare for the spectacle.
“I am representing Jontih. When the case is heard, we will subpoena Hajiji, the assemblypersons, and others linked to the matter - more than 20 people in total,” said Chin (above), who also serves as Warisan’s legal adviser.
“We will compel them to testify. So, stock up on peanuts and get ready to watch the show,” he added.
SMM filed a lawsuit against Jontih and an external third party Tei Jiann Chieng after the former CEO accused his successor Natasha Sim and Hajiji of misconduct and abuse of power.
Hajiji serves as the chairperson of the state-owned entity.

Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji NoorAccording to reports, SMM's lawsuit seeks redress for “fraud, breach of fiduciary duties and confidentiality, tampering with official documents, conspiracy to injure by unlawful means, and potential collusion with third parties”.
Previously, Jontih, who compared the legal dispute to a Premier League football match, had also urged people to “stock up on peanuts” upon learning of the lawsuit.
He stated that the legal proceedings would allow him to present all the alleged evidence in his possession to the public.
SMM sues Malaysiakini
SMM also issued a legal letter to Malaysiakini after the news portal published an article on Monday quoting the whistleblower behind the Sabah “corruption” videos.
The whistleblower claimed he was offered a settlement in exchange for describing the alleged bribes given to assemblypersons as political donations.
ADSAdditionally, he alleged that revoked mineral exploration licenses would be reinstated as part of the deal.
Membakut assemblyperson Arifin Arif, who was implicated in the alleged settlement negotiations, denied the claims and filed a police report against the Malaysiakini article.

Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that MACC recorded statements from two former high-ranking civil servants who are both chairpersons of separate firms within a mining consortium linked to the whistleblower regarding the alleged settlement.
Hajiji has dismissed the allegations as an attempt to tarnish his administration, suggesting that the whistleblower is colluding with others to overthrow the state government. - Mkini
