Ex Bersatu 6 No Notice Received From Party On Decision Says Speaker
Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul said that he has yet to receive communication from Bersatu regarding his decision of no seat vacancies involving the six MPs stripped of their party membership.
“So far, I have not received anything,” he said at a press conference after he visited the Perak state legislative assembly today.
Johari (above) said according to the Constitution, the speaker’s decision on matters relating to the lower house is final.
However, he said every Malaysian has the right to pursue court action, as it is a fundamental right of every citizen.
“It is their (Bersatu’s) right, they can exercise it. I have not heard anything yet, but in the statement by Perikatan Nasional chairperson (Muhyiddin Yassin), he said they may take (legal action),” he added.
Muhyiddin was previously reported as saying that Bersatu would engage a legal expert to choose an appropriate course of action following the decision to uphold the Federal Constitution and the party constitution.
PN chairperson Muhyiddin YassinHe also expressed his disappointment over Johari’s decision as the Bersatu supreme council had already terminated the membership of the six MPs and they can no longer represent Bersatu in the Dewan Rakyat.
Palestine
Regarding PN’s call for a special meeting of the Dewan Rakyat to take decisive action on the Palestine issue, Johari said the matter had already been raised in a statement in the Dewan Negara last Thursday.
“The incident happened so fast that we immediately took the initiative to get the foreign minister to explain it in the Dewan Negara.
“Yesterday’s rally at Axiata Arena drew a large crowd with many demanding that government leaders address the issue. I also took the opportunity to explain what happened as I was the last Malaysian to meet (Hamas leader) Ismail Haniyeh,” he said.
Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan, in his statement for the motion for solidarity with the Palestinian people in the Senate session, said the assassination of the Hamas political bureau chief has huge implications for global stability and peace and could trigger a regional war in the Middle East. - Mkini
