Enjoying Good Life Now Kj Repeats Disinterest In Rejoining Politics
Former Umno politician Khairy Jamaluddin repeated his disinterest in reentering politics, saying he has a good life as a podcaster and radio host.
“I’m enjoying a good life right now, why would I want to leave this?” Harian Metro quoted him as saying at a Tealive event in Putrajaya today.
He also declined to comment on former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s call for all Malays to join his new secretariat committee.
“I am not a member of Perikatan Nasional, nor am I currently a member of Umno. It’s best that I don’t comment. Let’s focus on today’s launch,” he said.
He was attending the launch event of Tealive’s latest 3-in-1 powdered drink at a shopping mall.
Last week, Khairy dismissed speculation of rejoining politics soon, saying he is focused on other commitments for the rest of the year despite cabinet reshuffle rumours.
At the time, the “Keluar Sekejap” podcast host told reporters that he wished to focus on other work.
It is understood that talk has been swirling within Umno ranks about Khairy’s potential comeback after being sacked by the party in January 2023.
The rumours came amid the resignation of Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz from Umno to enter PKR. This move has angered Umno, as the investment, trade, and industry minister is still holding on to his post, meaning the party has one less representative in the cabinet.

Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul AzizShortly before that, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli as well as Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad tendered their resignations as ministers following their defeat in the PKR election.
Analysts commenting on the possibility of Khairy’s return to the cabinet via Umno said it could signal the party’s move towards modernisation and reconciliation.
However, one analyst, think tank O2 Research’s Anis Anwar Suhaimi, cautioned that Khairy taking over Rafizi or Nik Nazmi’s portfolio would only be a short-term solution.
Khairy was sacked from Umno in late January 2023, during a purge against party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s rivals.
In the last general election, the former Rembau MP failed to wrest the Sungai Buloh seat from PKR, which was won by R Ramanan, the present entrepreneur development and cooperatives deputy minister.
Prior to that, Khairy served as health minister; science, technology, and innovation minister; and youth and sports minister. Mkini
