The administration of Ismail Sabri Yaakob (left) was not chaotic or tense, a PAS leader said, whereas Anwar Ibrahim’s government is in ‘disarray’.KUALA LUMPUR: A PAS leader has called on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to emulate his predecessor, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, when it comes to governing Malaysia, which he said was more calm and devoid of major controversies.
Ismail, who served as the ninth prime minister from August 2021 to November 2022, also enjoyed cordial relations with the opposition, PAS Ulama wing chief Ahmad Yahya said.
He said Ismail had even roped in the opposition to help with the country’s post-Covid-19 recovery, referring to the memorandum of understanding signed with Pakatan Harapan.
In September 2021, Ismail and PH leaders signed the MoU agreeing to work together to help bolster economic recovery and restore political stability while the government managed the pandemic.
“It was a lot calmer when Ismail was in charge, unlike the issues we are dealing with today,” Ahmad told reporters at a dinner last night.
He, however, did not elaborate on the issues he was referring to.
“There may have been (some controversy), but it wasn’t chaotic or tense (like it is now),” he said.
Ahmad, who is also the Pokok Sena MP, claimed that Anwar’s administration was in “disarray” as he had made many promises before being named the prime minister.
“This is the main factor. There were too many promises made which were not fulfilled,” he said. - FMT
