Election Petition Appeal For Gua Musang Putrajaya Court Sets June 19
The Federal Court has set June 19 to hear Umno’s appeal to revive the party’s election petitions for the Putrajaya and Gua Musang parliamentary constituencies.
Counsel Amin Othman confirmed the hearing date set during case management of the appeal conducted via e-review (online) before the Federal Court registry in Putrajaya earlier today.
The lawyer is acting for the two appellants in the matter, namely Putrajaya Umno division vice-chief Ahmad Faisal Abdul Karim and BN candidate for Gua Musang, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.
“Parties have filed their written submissions,” Amin said when contacted over the appeal that targets Perikatan Nasional’s electoral victory at the two parliamentary constituencies in the 15th general election (GE15) late last year.
Meanwhile, counsel Yusfarizal Yusoff - who represented the two respondents, namely Putrajaya MP Mohd Radzi Jidin and Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (both from Bersatu) - also confirmed that the court has set the hearing date to hear the appeal.
Former Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh HamzahAhmad Faisal and Tengku Razaleigh are appealing against the decision of two separate election courts to allow the respondents’ preliminary objections and strike out the election petitions without the legal actions being subjected to a full hearing.
On Feb 26, the High Court in Kota Bharu quashed Tengku Razaleigh’s election petition over Azizi’s electoral victory in Gua Musang.
Then on March 10, the High Court in Kuala Lumpur allowed the preliminary objection by Putrajaya lawmaker Radzi and struck out Ahmad Faisal’s election petition.
Both election courts ruled, among others, that Tengku Razaleigh and Ahmad Faisal failed to provide sufficient particulars and details over the alleged bribery allegations during GE15.
Former Putrajaya MP Tengku Adnan Tengku MansorIn GE15, Radzi clinched the Putrajaya seat by polling 16,002 votes, beating four-term incumbent Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor of BN, who obtained 13,692 votes.
In the polls, Tengku Razaleigh failed to retain the Gua Musang seat for a 12th time when he lost to Azizi by a 163-vote majority.
Azizi (Bersatu) obtained 21,826 votes while Tengku Razaleigh (BN-Umno) garnered 21,663 votes. - Mkini
