Education Tv To Make A Comeback On Rtm
A new educational television channel is being prepared by RTM.KUALA LUMPUR: A special educational television channel is being prepared by Radio Televisyen Malaysia to help the home learning process during the Covid-19 pandemic and after, said communications minister Saifuddin Abdullah.
He said RTM had the experience of having its own educational television service, called TV Pendidikan, from 1972 to 2008. The ministry expects the new channel to be ready by the first quarter of 2021.
“During (the implementation) of the first movement control order, we held home classes in two sessions: two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon using (RTM’s) TV Okey channel.
“Actually, RTM is now ready and has conducted tests on the (new) channel. It is too early to give it a name but the preparations are for education TV,” he said.
Saifuddin told reporters this after a virtual media conference in conjunction with the closing of the Asean meeting of digital ministers.
Saifuddin said his ministry would play the role of providing the platform while content would be provided by the education ministry.
In a separate interview, the director-general of education, Habibah Abdul Rahim, said the current education television programme, also called TV Pendidikan, would be broadcast for nine hours a day from Mondays to Fridays on RTM’s Okey TV channel and on Astro and NTV7.
“We are also planning to increase the TV Pendidikan airtime to reach out to more students because more than 90% of households in Malaysia have television so the access is definitely wider,” she said at a virtual press conference on the opening of the new school year. - FMT
