Editor Probed Over Criminal Information Disclosure Defamation
MalaysiaNow editor Abdar Rahman Koya is under investigation for alleged criminal information disclosure and criminal defamation, said his lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan.
Rajesh confirmed to Malaysiakini that Rahman’s statement was recorded at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters today at around 2pm, over the investigation against him on criminal defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code.
He said the investigation was pursuant to businessperson Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak’s police report lodged against his client.
“The Petaling Jaya IPD is also investigating Farhash’s report under Section 233 of the MCMC Act 1998.
“He (Rahman) had given his statement to the police last week at Bukit Aman police headquarters, over a police report lodged against him involving the mineral exploration licence scandal in Sabah,” he said.
The Bukit Aman investigation, said Rajesh (above, left), is conducted under Section 203A of the Penal Code that criminalises the disclosure of information obtained in the performance of one’s duties.
He added that there is no indication of whether Rahman (above, middle) would be charged in the near future.
Rahman was previously grilled by the police on Aug 12 after Sabah Mineral Management (SMM) Sdn Bhd lodged a report over the same scandal.
Last month, MalaysiaNow published a series of exposés alleging that SMM - a Sabah GLC - had granted a mineral prospecting licence to a company co-owned by Farhash.
Farhash and SMM denied the allegation. The company then revealed that it had given a conditional nod to Farhash’s company to apply for a prospecting license, but cancelled after the company failed to submit the required documents. - Mkini
