Dr M Pejuang To Stay Out Of Malacca Polls
Parti Pejuang Tanahair will stay out of the Malacca state elections next month, according to party founder Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The former premier said Pejuang will also not be helping any parties with their election campaigns.
"I want to say that Pejuang will not take part in this election. The reason is that we see this as a political game. These people are not serious about politics.
"We enter politics to serve the country, to develop the country, and provide a comfortable life for the people.
"But these people join politics just for positions and if they see an opportunity to grab power, they make a move to bring down the government and when the government fell, they hope to be the new government," said Mahathir.
He was speaking during a press conference at Yayasan Al-Bukhary in Kuala Lumpur.
He cited how daily Covid-19 cases spiked after the Sabah state polls last September and said there was a risk the same may happen in Malacca even with restrictions on physical gatherings related to the election.
"So, this election should not be called.
"We will not help any parties. We are totally neutral. Pejuang members will not go to Malacca or make any election speeches," he said.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin yesterday said all public gatherings related to the election will be banned from today until Nov 27 as part of Covid-19 prevention measures.
Polling day has been set for Nov 20 while nominations will be held on Nov 8. - Mkini
