Dr M Najib S Imprisonment Won T Cleanse Umno

The imprisonment of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak will not cleanse Umno of its corruption-tainted image, said Pejuang chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
According to Mahathir, himself a former prime minister and former Umno president, corruption in Umno has cascaded down to the grassroots level.
This is the reason, he said, why the party should be completely rejected in the 15th general election (GE15).
“Najib's imprisonment will not ‘cleanse’ Umno. The Umno culture is not the same as when it was first founded. This is not the same Umno.
“This is why Umno should be defeated and replaced with a Malay party which champions the cause of the Malays, for the race, religion, and country,” said the Langkawi MP in a Facebook post today.
Mahathir also lambasted Umno leaders and members who claimed Najib (above) has been wronged and that the courts have unfairly judged him.
He said never before in the country's history have nine judges in three courts erroneously judged an accused.
“What's unfair is Najib's act of trying to cover up an elephant's carcass by sacking all those who tried to investigate wrongdoings in 1MDB.
“These include sacking attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and replacing him with Apandi Ali, who later cleared Najib of all charges.
“Not forgetting police officers and MACC officers who were transferred out and ‘cold-storaged’,” said Mahathir.
Pejuang chairperson Dr Mahathir MohamadNajib was on Aug 23 sentenced to 12 years in jail and fined RM210 million for abuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering linked to RM42 million of SRC International funds.
He has since filed a petition for a royal pardon and his status as the Pekan MP would depend on the outcome of the petition. - Mkini
