Dr Ganja Ordered To Enter Defence Over 39 Drug Related Charges

An army veteran, who was slapped with 39 counts of drug-related charges, has been ordered to enter his defence by Shah Alam High Court today.
Judicial commissioner Julia Ibrahim ruled that the prosecution has established a prima facie case against Amiruddin @ Nadarajan Abdullah, better known as Dr Ganja.
Julia said she made the ruling after considering the submission from both parties with maximum principle.
“The prosecution has succeeded in establishing a prima facie case against the accused based on direct evidence and without depending on any assumption.
"Therefore, I order the accused to defend himself for all the charges," she was quoted by Kosmo! as saying.
The court then set April 7, 8, 13 and 18 for the defence hearing.
The 63-year-old who is in a wheelchair was caught using medical marijuana to treat his cancer and charged with Section 39(b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence.
He was slapped with 16 counts of charges, for distributing 77.84 kilograms of cannabis.
Amiruddin also faced 18 counts of cultivating cannabis under Section 6B of the same Act, which carries life imprisonment and whipping.
On top of that, Amiruddin also faced four charges of possessing marijuana and one inserting cannabis in the body.
He was charged under Section 6 and Section 15(1) under the same Act respectively.
The above offences were committed at a house in Kampung Delek Dalam, Klang on May 26, 2017.
The defence was represented by lawyer Ramkarpal Singh while deputy public prosecutor Aidatul Azura Zainal Abidin acted on behalf of the prosecution.
A total of 17 prosecution witnesses had been called to testify in court. - Mkini
