Did You Read Pm S Announcement Dap Man Pans Wee S Rm100 Return Idea
DAP assistant national organising secretary Lee Chin Chen has taken a swipe at MCA president Wee Ka Siong for suggesting that the government set up a mechanism to allow people to return the RM100 Rahmah Necessities Aid (Sara) if they do not need it.
ADSIn a Facebook post, Lee (above) said it was clear that Wee did not properly listen to or read Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement this morning.
He noted that the prime minister has announced that all Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above would receive the RM100 special aid.
“It can be used from Aug 31 to Dec 31. Just bring your MyKad to participating MyKasih stores to use it.
“If, like Wee, you don’t want to claim the RM100, that’s fine too. The amount will be returned to the government after Dec 31, for it to assist those eligible for Sara next year,” said the Pahang state assembly deputy speaker.
“Will Wee instruct MCA leaders and members at all levels to voluntarily forgo this aid?” Lee added in a long hashtag.
‘Redirect public funds’
Earlier, Wee suggested that the government allow those who do not need the RM100 aid to voluntarily return the money.
He said such a mechanism would enable public funds to be redirected to more critical areas, including healthcare and education.

MCA president Wee Ka Siong“I believe Anwar, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, all cabinet ministers, many MPs, and state assemblypersons would also be willing to forgo the RM100 Sara aid for the sake of the people.
“I will be the first to contribute mine. A win-win solution - the people get to choose, and the government wins too!” Wee said on Facebook today.
‘Undermining govt’
Kampar lawmaker Chong Zhemin also took aim at Wee’s remarks, saying the latter opposed for the sake of opposing, ignoring Anwar’s explanation that the rich can opt not to take the aid.
ADS“Wee has spun the issue to undermine the government and cause confusion. Acting in this manner does not serve the rakyat’s interest and is politically motivated,” he said in a statement.
The DAP MP said Wee, as a government backbencher, should be more constructive with his proposals, and not play a “more opposition than the opposition” role.

Kampar MP Chong Zhemin“At a time when the people are facing inflationary pressures, the government has come up with measures and solutions.
“We welcome sincere proposals to improve, but reject baseless political gimmicks,” he added.
‘Why keep them waiting?’
Wee, in an immediate response to Lee, questioned the need to keep patients and students waiting until the end of the year.
Wee further queried as to how the unclaimed money, when returned to the government at year-end, will be used.
“(Do) those waiting 21 months for surgery still have to wait another five months just to reach the end of this year?
“(Do) students waiting for scholarships to enter public university or matriculation have to wait until next year to apply again?
“Why keep the patients and students waiting?” he asked.
‘Extraordinary tribute’

Earlier today, Anwar announced his widely hyped “extraordinary tribute” to all Malaysians:
- Lowering RON95 prices to RM1.99 by the end of September, exclusively for Malaysians.
- RM100 Sara aid for all adult Malaysians to purchase groceries, valid from Aug 31 to Dec 31.
- An additional public holiday on Sept 15.
- No increase in toll prices at 10 highways.
- Enhancements to the Rahmah Madani Sales initiative.
