Decision On Muda S Leadership Polls After Election Post Mortem

A Muda member has called for fresh leadership polls following the party’s dismal performance in the recent state elections.PETALING JAYA: Muda will only decide on when it will hold its leadership elections after the party’s state elections post-mortem, a party source said.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a Muda leader said originally, the party elections were expected to be held by the end of next year.
“However, looking at the situation, the party might make it sooner,” he said, adding that members had called for it to be brought forward.
Muda has come under fierce criticism from supporters after it suffered another embarrassing performance at its third outing during the state elections on Aug 12, with all 19 candidates losing their deposits.
Prior to this, party president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman retained his Muar seat at the general election last November but he was the only one of five candidates to win at the polls.
At the Johor state elections early last year, deputy president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz was the only one out of seven candidates to win, claiming the Puteri Wangsa seat.
The source added that the matter will be discussed in detail after the post-mortem for the state elections.
“The Negeri Sembilan post-mortem will be held this Friday and Selangor’s is expected to take place next week,” he said.
Meanwhile, another Muda member, who also wished to remain anonymous, said people are unhappy with the current situation, especially after all candidates lost their deposits.
“Let us go through the post-mortem first, then we will make further announcements on the leadership election,” he said.
On Sunday, Muda member Danial Jafri urged the party to hold elections in the wake of its performance at the weekend.
Danial said the call is consistent with the demands of grassroot members that the party tackle internal matters and enhance its structure.
He said the central executive committee (CEC) must step down to take responsibility for the party’s poor showing in its first three elections.
“The CEC was not elected by the party, thus lack accountability for every decision and action,” he said. - FMT
