Dap Slams Violent Attack After Fire At Ngeh S Home
DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook says he was informed that the house was attacked with a Molotov cocktail.
(FMT) – DAP today condemned a “violent” attack that resulted in a fire at the residence of Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham early this morning.
DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said he was informed by Ngeh that the house was attacked with a Molotov cocktail.
“DAP strongly condemns this violent attack, which posed a threat to the lives of his family. We affirm that any form of violence is unacceptable in addressing differences within our society,” he said in a statement.
He also called on the home ministry and police to take a serious view of the incident, urging them to ensure that safety and public peace are upheld.
“On behalf of the entire DAP leadership, I express sympathy and solidarity with his family over this act of violence,” he said.
China Press earlier reported that Ngeh’s residence in Ayer Tawar, Perak, had caught fire in the wee hours of the morning.
Ngeh told the Chinese language daily that he and his wife were woken by a passerby who rang the doorbell and alerted them to the fire.
Ngeh, a Perak DAP leader, said he had lodged a report on the matter at the Ayer Tawar police station.
The Ayer Tawar fire and rescue department said they received a distress call at 3.05am and immediately dispatched personnel to the scene.
The DAP lawmaker recently stirred controversy by suggesting that non-Muslim constitutional experts be appointed to the committee reviewing the jurisdiction of shariah courts according to the Federal Constitution. Ngeh later apologised and withdrew his proposal.
