Dap Rep Condemns Temple Gunfire Urges Strong Action
Banting assemblyperson Papparaidu Veraman condemned the act of firing a gun during a Hindu ceremony at a temple in Kuala Selangor on Aug 31.
The DAP representative said this contradicts the Hindu faith, which is one of peace, harmony and humanity.
“Therefore, any form of violence must never be present in religious celebrations or activities.
“This act must be condemned in the strongest terms.
“I extend my full support to the police and relevant authorities to carry out thorough investigations, conduct raids and arrests, and prosecute those involved in court so that such incidents will not recur in any part of our state or across the nation,” he said in a statement today.
ADSHe further called on the Malaysian Hindu Sangam to issue a statement saying that the action does not reflect the religion and will not be tolerated in any temple.
Yesterday, Kuala Selangor district police chief Azaharudin Tajudin said a suspect was arrested in Petaling Jaya at 8pm the day before.
The man has been remanded for three days since yesterday, Azaharudin said in a statement.
The investigation is under Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960, which states that a person shall not discharge an arm without authorisation, unless a member of the armed forces, with an exception for the protection of life or property.
Punishment for violating the law is found under Section 43, which stipulates a jail term of not more than a year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
Azaharudin said a report was lodged on Sept 1 at around 3.50pm after a video of the incident went viral. - Mkini
