Covid 19 Public Reminded To Stay Vigilant
The public have been reminded not to take the spike in Covid-19 cases lightly and to address the situation seriously. - NSTP/DANIAL SAADKUALA LUMPUR: The public have been reminded not to take the spike in Covid-19 cases lightly and to address the situation seriously.
Alliance for Safe Community chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said there is a need to step up efforts to mitigate transmission through community empowerment and stringent law enforcement.
Though more than half of the spike in cases are confined to prisons and detention centres, he said the public should acknowledge the need to adopt the right response to flatten the infection curve.
"It has been pointed out that the cause of surging infections are prisoners and detainees. But, these are not people who are roaming the streets.
"They live in confined places where it is easy to monitor, test and isolate the disease carriers. Why was this not done sooner?
"In the final analysis, if we are going to win the war against Covid-19, we have to depend on all Malaysians to play their role to fully comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP)," he said in a statement.
Lee also said political leaders should set the right example and fully comply with the SOPs.
He added enforcement should be stepped up to ensure the practise of physical distancing especially in crowded places like public transportation and night markets.
"We have been advised that now is not the time to find fault with anyone. The people have been advised to focus on tackling the pandemic together.
"This is what the rakyat have been doing these several months.
"After having made so much effort to flatten the curve, they now have to suffer another extended period of movement control because of the irresponsible acts of others," Lee added. - NST
