Covid 19 Celebrating Malaysia Day In New Norm
Malaysians celebrated the 57th Malaysia Day today, to commemorate the establishment of the Malaysian federation, despite facing the Covid-19 pandemic
Although movements are limited due to the recovery movement control order, the spirit of love for the country was still evident in this new norm
Without official celebrations in some states, like in previous years, various parties took the initiative to enliven the celebration on a smaller scale
Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Ismail had a friendly chat via video conferencing with frontline staff in Pekan, including the district police headquarters, hospital, fire station, and 505 Regiment Camp Sungai Miang
The state-level celebration was enlivened with pantomime performances themed on the fight against Covid-19 as well as a singing performance by firefighter Syafiq Farhain and members of the uniformed team which took place at the National Youth Skills Institute today
In Sabah, incumbent Chief Minister Shafie Apdal said the Malaysia Day celebration was important especially for Sabahans to recall the formation of Malaysia on September 16, 1963
He said the date was the starting point for Sabah and Sarawak to be free from the shackles of colonialism
“The sacrifices made by past freedom fighters... when Sabah was once partially conquered by the Japanese, before achieving independence,” he said
Shafie was speaking to reporters after the state-level Malaysia Day celebration at the Sabah International Convention Centre
Also present was Sabah Governor Juhar Mahiruddin and wife Norlidah RM Jasni

The motorcycle convoy was organised by the Agro Entrepreneur Institute (iGROW) and iGROW Skills Training Centre students
The ceremony was officiated by Perak Youth, Sports, Communications and Multimedia Committee chairperson Khairul Shahril Mohamed
The 30km convoy focused on heritage sites in the district, such as the tomb of Sultan Muzaffar Shah 1 and the Nasaruddin Rais mini gallery
In Negeri Sembilan, the Department of National Unity and Integration celebrated Malaysia Day by holding a Lorong Ceria Merdeka and Rumah Ceria Merdeka competition in addition to an independence talk slot
It was held in collaboration with the Bandar Warisan Puteri Rukun Tetangga neighbourhood watch, attracting about 100 residents in the area. The winners of the competitions held since Aug 12 will be announced today
In Penang, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Penang Office organised the Voluntourism Malaysia Clean and Beautiful Programme at National Park, Teluk Bahang
Apart from that, the Teluk Bahang assemblypersons’s service centre also organised the Konvoi Lautan Merah Hari Malaysia programme which presented donations to veterans of uniformed services
Meanwhile, in Machang, Kelantan, more than 200 participants took part in a Merdeka Fun Ride 2020, which was attended by Kelantan Umno chairperson Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub

In Terengganu, the State Tourism Department held a celebration at the state's latest tourism location, Kampung Budaya Terengganu, in Kuala Terengganu
Apart from a narration of the formation of Malaysia by the State Museum Board director Che Muhamad Azmi Ngah, the celebration was enlivened by several events such as the recitation of patriotic poems and singing of patriotic songs
