Covid 19 10 Deaths Reported Today Highest On Record
COVID-19 | Malaysia has reported 710 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours up to noon today, as well as 10 deaths, marking the highest number of fatalities reported in a single day since the pandemic hit the country.
Sabah continues to record the highest number of new infections with 528 cases or 74.4 percent, as well as the highest death rate with eight out of the 10 deaths.
The remaining two deaths were reported in Labuan and Kedah. The latest death count is at 214 cases or 0.9 percent of all recorded cases.
The casualties in Sabah involved six males, aged between 33 and 77, and two females, aged 62 and 69.
In Kedah, the deceased was a 67-year old male, while in Labuan, the deceased was a 58-year old female.
The triple-digit figures today bring the cumulative case to 24,514, with active cases at 8,416.
Of the 710 new cases, there is a single imported case in Kuala Lumpur involving a non-citizen who entered the country from Nepal.
The breakdown of the cases are as follow:
Sabah (528 cases)
• 203 cases from clusters, including two from a new cluster called 'Samudera'.
• 169 cases from close contact screening.
• 156 cases from other Covid-19 screening.
Selangor (62)
• 29 cases from clusters, including 10 cases from new clusters designated as 'Palma' and 'Jaya'.
• 18 cases from close contact screening.
• One case from screening after returning from Sabah.
• 14 cases from other Covid-19 screening.
Penang (39)
• All from existing clusters
Negeri Sembilan (37)
• 28 cases from two clusters including one case from new cluster called 'Jaya'.
• Two cases from close contact screening.
• Seven cases from other Covid-19 screening.
Labuan (19)
• 16 cases from existing clusters.
• One case from close contact screening.
• Two cases from other Covid-19 screening.
Kuala Lumpur (10)
• Five cases from existing clusters including one case from a new cluster, 'Palma'.
• Two case from close contact screening.
• Three cases from other Covid-19 screening.
Perak (4)
• One case from an existing cluster.
• Three cases from other Covid-19 screening.
Johor (4)
• A single case from an existing cluster.
• Two cases from close contact screening.
• One case from other Covid-19 screening.
Terengganu (2)
• One case from close contact screening.
• A single case from other Covid-19 screening.
Sarawak (2)
• Both cases from other Covid-19 screening.
Kedah (1)
• One case from an existing cluster.
Pahang (1)
• One case from an existing cluster.
To date, 90 patients are being treated in intensive care units, while 28 cases rely on ventilators for breathing.
Meanwhile, the ministry also reported 467 recoveries. They comprise Sabah (246), Selangor (105), Kedah (74), Penang (24), Malacca (7), Terengganu (4), Johor (4); and one each in Sarawak, Negeri Sembilan, and Pahang.
Cumulative recoveries are now at 15,884 cases.
