Court Maintains Injunction Against Sanusi In Anwar S Suit
Anwar Ibrahim (left) filed the suit against PAS election director Sanusi Nor last year, after the latter allegedly insinuated that the PKR president was ‘immoral’.PETALING JAYA: The Alor Setar High Court has maintained an interim injunction against Sanusi Nor in Anwar Ibrahim’s ongoing lawsuit against the PAS leader.
Anwar filed the suit against Sanusi last December, after the PAS election director allegedly insinuated that the PKR president was “immoral”.
The prime minister’s lawyers, SN Nair and Jaden Phoon, said Justice Mahazan Mat Taib maintained the injunction today.
On July 31, the court had granted an ex-parte interim injunction following an application by Anwar.
Nair said Sanusi’s lawyers, Yusfarizal Yussoff and Adam Luqman Amdan, opposed the injunction but the judge dismissed the objection.
Anwar sought to restrain Sanusi, his staff and agents from repeating the alleged defamatory remarks until the disposal of the lawsuit.
Nair had said the Kedah menteri besar “obstinately and resolutely” repeated similar defamatory utterances and statements in two ceramahs during the August state elections, despite being fully aware of the lawsuit.
The lawyer added that the court had fixed Feb 19 for case management.
In his statement of claim, Anwar alleged that Sanusi implied he had abused his powers as an MP, was deceitful, a traitor, a hypocrite and not a good Muslim.
Anwar said the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong granted him a full pardon on June 16, 2018, for his three convictions – one for abuse of power and two for sodomy – on the basis that there was a “miscarriage of justice”.
He said the pardon was also granted on the basis that there was a conspiracy to destroy his character. - FMT
