Court Allows Prosecution To File Additional Submission In Rosmah S Graft Trial

(Bernama pic)KUALA LUMPUR: Rosmah Mansor’s corruption trial linked to the RM1.25 billion Sarawak rural schools’ solar energy project has been adjourned to May 12 as the prosecution wants to file an additional submission.
Today’s hearing in the High Court had been scheduled for the defence and prosecution to make oral submissions before a date is fixed for a decision.
However, deputy public prosecutor Poh Yih Tinn said trial judge Zaini Mazlan allowed the prosecution’s application in chambers.
“The judge allowed our application to file an additional submission in response to the defence case,” he told reporters.
The prosecution must file the written submission by April 22 and the defence could reply by May 12.
“Mention will be on May 12 and if need be, the parties may make clarification on their submissions,” Poh said.
Rosmah, 70, is accused of soliciting RM187.5 million from former Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin, through her former aide Rizal Mansor, as an inducement to help the company secure the solar project for rural schools in Sarawak.
She is also accused of receiving bribes amounting to RM5 million from Saidi, through Rizal, at Seri Perdana in Putrajaya on Dec 20, 2016.
Rosmah is said to have received another RM1.5 million from Saidi at Jalan Langgak Duta here on Sept 7, 2017.
The defence contends that Rosmah is entitled to an acquittal as her response to each of the charges is not one of bare denial but one with merit.
