Cops To Remand Nepali In Security Guard Assault Video Probe

Police have arrested a Nepali man whom they identified as a suspect in their probe into a widely shared video depicting a man physically assaulting a Nepali security guard
In a statement, Wangsa Maju district police chief Supt Rajab Ahad Ismail said the 34-year-old was detained at about 5pm today
"Based on information from the public as well as cooperation from the Nepali Embassy, the Wangsa Maju police arrested a male Nepali national suspected to be involved in this case at about 5pm on Aug 3, 2020
"The 34-year-old suspect is now held at the Wangsa Maju district police station for further investigation, he said, adding that the suspect will be remanded tomorrow
However, police had not been able to locate the security guard who was beaten up as seen in the video
“Wangsa Maju police are still trying to trace the victim of the case and we urge anyone from the public who has information to come forward immediately to assist with investigations,” Rajab said

Police previously said the suspect was believed to be a Pakistani national
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means)
Earlier today, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director (Investigation/Legal) Mior Faridalathrash Wahid told newswire Bernama that the suspect in the case was a 35-year-old Nepali national
The victim, he said, was a 26-year-old Nepali national
“We have applied to the Immigration Department to bar them from living [sic] the country and checks found that they are still in the country,” Mior was quoted as saying
Meanwhile, the Nepali Embassy of Malaysia shared that it was in contact with the suspect and the victim and said both were “undocumented” Nepali nationals
“The victim is a security guard and the perpetrator is the supervisor. They have both confirmed that they are the ones in the video,” it said in a Nepalese-language statement on its Facebook page
Identifying both the victim and the suspect, it said the latter had voluntarily turned himself in to the police
The embassy previously lodged a police report over a July 7 video showing a man grabbing and physically assaulting another man dressed in a security guard uniform
Using what appears to be a baton, he repeatedly strikes the security guard’s back, arm and legs. He also slaps him across the face with his hand
He continues beating the guard even as the latter backs away and attempts to shield himself
"You main main ah? (Are you playing around?)“You mari sini cari kerja ke cari masalah? (Are you here to find work or find trouble?),” the man is heard telling the guard in Malay
The video has since caused an uproar in Malaysia and Nepal over the mistreatment of migrant workers
Police later confirmed that the assault happened at a condominium along Jalan Madrasah in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur.  - Mkini
